Get drunk off this hump: Alanis covers “My Humps”
By tunequest April 5, 2007Allow me to preface this by saying I’ve never been that impressed by Alanis Morissette’s work. She’s a decent enough performer, but her songs always struck me as, well, whiny.
But this performance here is bordering on brilliance.
It’s a rather unexpected cover of Fergie/Black Eyed Peas’ My Humps. I’m not sure what Ms. Morissette has been up to the past few years, but this is the last thing I would have predicted.
Accompanied by a stark piano melody, Alanis’ earnest vocals expose the utter vapidity and ridiculousness of the song’s lyrics and highlights the bad grammar, terrible slang and forced pseudo-rhyhms. There’s no fancy-pants production to lend an air of fun or excitement.
The video itself is pretty amateurish, but everyone involved is clearly having fun.
Enjoy:

I’ve not been able to track down the origin or motivation behind this video. Could be a viral made-for-youtube thing.

My Humps is likely the worst song I’ve listened to in the past few years. I actually got angry.
That said this new Alanis version reminds me of Tori Amos. Which is a good thing in my book…

Yeah, I agree. There is something distinctively atrocious about My Humps that could be a catalyst for uncontrollable fits of rage.
